Last Cab to Darwin’s Emma Hamilton and City Homicide’s Ryan O’Kane head the cast of Network Ten’s Mary: The Making Of A Princess.
FremantleMedia Australia's telemovie will follow the chance meeting of Tasmanian-born Mary Donaldson and Crown Prince Frederik Andre Henrik Christian of Denmark at Sydney's The Slip Inn in 2000. That led to a four-year courtship which culminated in their marriage.
The producer is Antonia Barnard, Sam Strauss wrote the screenplay and Jennifer Leacey is the director. Shooting in Sydney starts on July 20, with Damian Wyvill as the DoP.
Hamilton played Anne Stanhope in The Tudors and will be seen in the fourth series of Mr Selfridge. Her credits include Jeremy Sims’ Last Cab to Darwin and TV’s The Musketeers, Poirot and Case Histories.
O’Kane appears in two upcoming Australian movies, Abe Forsythe’s black comedy Down Under and Peter Andrikidis’ Alex & Eve. Last year he played Ranger Tom in ABC’s It's a Date.
Network Ten head of drama, Rick Maier said: “Mary: The Making Of A Princess will be a step by step insider’s view into exactly what happened when a young woman stopped for a drink with friends and met a real life Prince. The rest, of course, is history."
Executive producer and FremantleMedia Australia’s director of drama Jo Porter, said: “These talented actors already have so much chemistry together; our team is standing by to physically transform them into the Mary and Fred the world recognises.”
