AIT to host Augmented and Virtual Reality MeetUp

AIT to host Sydney's next Augmented and Virtual Reality MeetUp – presented by Augmented Reality OMG:

Virtually Augmented  – Business, Design, Engineering streams

AIT –  A private college specialising in creative media education has teamed up with Australia’s leading tech pioneers to host the next Augmented (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) MeetUp.

The event will feature demos of cutting edge immersive visual effects technology and panel discussions on the latest in Augmented Reality Virtual Reality. Over 300 people are expected to discuss and showcase the groundbreaking technology that is changing the way we view the world!

Peter Cameron, Dean of Studies AIT says

‘To stay in front, educators like AIT must constantly monitor the digital bleeding edge. We can't wait until new ways are established,  by the time we develop the curricula and put students through, that thing will already be on its way out. On the other hand, we can't jump on every new wave announced,  popular discussion is 1% inspiration 99% hyperbole. That's why we support this meetup group. It's a chance for us to ask questions and listen to those people who will be making the decisions. We have two questions: "What most likely will happen?", "How can we prepare our students?"

Scott O'Brien, head of Augmented Reality OMG says

'Sydney has been host to a number of world leading Augmented (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) companies in the past 6 years. It is our goal to bring the creative professionals responsible for these incredible advances into one creative space to start meaningful discussions on the creative and commercial opportunities within our world’.

According to Mark Zuckerberg and the top 5 digital media companies (FB: GOOG: APPL: MSFT: AMZN) AR and VR are the final mediums and the next age of computing. Every industry and lifestyle will be affected by this quicker than any other new form of media. Spielberg, Lucas, Nascar use cameras designed in Sydney with platforms developed in Sydney. Michael Bay collaborates with AR agencies here to make record breaking apps and hardware is being developed here too. The very spine of AR and VR is being built here in Sydney with several Venture Capitalists focussing on this industry.

”The very nature of these technologies overcomes one of the most prohibitive factors in Australia's business links to the world – our tyranny of distance. AR and VR helps humans be present in the same "space" overcoming neurological barriers of rectangle screens and audio only communications.

With a globally unique cross pollination in world-leading arts and technology, Sydney is poised to be the epicentre of AR and VR with the next 6 months of co-ordinated activity.”

The last three AR VR meetups at Telstra Muru-D, Westpac and Deloitte have been ranking #1 worldwide by attendances. Scott OBrien the organiser of these events also managed the same with the Online Retail industry in 2009 with www.onlineretailer.com being the 2nd largest internet retail event in the world in its first year, and he expects similar results from this community.

“With co-ordinated activity from startups, investors, buyers and government, Sydney may capitalise on being the #1 city in the #1 new form of media, creating many interesting and sustainable jobs and creating something that silicon valley, LA, NY and London envies, yet cannot copy.”
