Despite news that the ACS50 was already a box office hit even before it opened at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Circular Quay, Sydney this morning, people were still pouring in and out of the sessions.
The conference is expected to see an average of 200 attendees per day, inclusive of over 50 walk-in registrants daily. Participants included industry professionals both local and internationally including cinematographers’ societies such as the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), British Society of Cinematographers (BSC) and European Federation of Cinematographers (IMAGO).
The hottest guest at the conference this morning was Daryn Okada who is the President of the ASC. Thrilled about his first trip to Australia, Okada who is here with his wife and son, said he didn’t want to go back to the US after being here a mere three days.
Okada presented the Master Class session ‘Film & Digital: The Story remains the same’.
Also, spotted at the conference sessions today, circled by excited industry peers eager to catch up and talk to them were Dean Semler AM ACS ASC (Dances with Wolves, Apocalypto) and Andrew Lesnie ACS ASC (Lord of the Rings). Lesnie will talk about ‘Getting the right Coverage’, while Semler will be presenting his session on ‘Digital Cinematography’ and sharing his experience working on Apocalypto. Both sessions will be held tomorrow afternoon and evening respectively.
