ACMI presents
Autumn School Holiday Program
Monday 28 March to Sunday 10 April 2016

ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) presents a program of kids’ flicks and workshops to delight parents and children alike when schools break for holidays. From Monday 28 March to Sunday 10 April, follow a family of hippos on their journey to the French Riviera, embark on an (Oscar® nominated) journey through Celtic legend, and get creative while learning some neat new skills at creative workshops that cover coding, flipbooks, Minecraft and more!

Kids’ Flicks
Screens 28 March to 25 April

“A simple, sweet tale about the basic pleasures of home and hearth” – Time Out London

The Moomins set sail for the French Riviera in search of adventure and, following a journey fraught with menacing storms and desert island dangers, they arrive in the south of France. Snorkmaiden is immediately bewitched by the glamourous surrounds and is dazzled by the attentions of a playboy. The original comic strip by the late illustrator and writer Tove Jansson dates way back in the 1940s and now his beloved creations star in the first feature film based on the original comic strips, voiced in English by the likes of English actor Russell Tovey (The Pirates! Band of Misfits).

Song of the Sea Unclassified All Ages
Screens 29 March to 8 April

“Sooner rather than later we will be talking about Tomm Moore with the same reverence and adoration as we do now about Miyazaki. This is one of the most blissfully beautiful animated films ever made.”
– Indiewire
Exclusive to ACMI, this Oscar® nominated, modern fairy-tale is about a little girl destined for great things. Based on Celtic legends, we follow Ben and his little sister Saoirse – the last Seal-child – as they embark on a fantastic journey back to their home by the sea. Across a fading world of ancient Irish legends and magic, Saoirse must find her voice and sing the ‘Song of the Sea’ to save all of fairy kind from being lost forever. Voiced by Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan & David Rawle.
