Ever since the pandemic began, the hope of distributors and exhibitors across the world has been to see the box office return to 2019 levels.
Globally, 2019 marked the best year for cinemas ever, with receipts tallying $US42.5 billion. Here in Australia, the box office total of $1.228 billion was down fractionally on 2018’s $1.245 billion and not far short of the 2016 industry record of $1.259 billion.
