Odessa Young in ‘High Life.’
Director Luke Eve’s web series High Life has been sold to US streaming service Fullscreen.
It marks another Australian acquisition for Fullscreen, which also picked up The Katering Show.
High Life was written by Glen Dolman (Hawke, Mystery of a Hansom Cab), and produced by Eve (Low Life, Australian Summer) with Adam Dolman. British comedian and mental health advocate Stephen Fry was the executive producer with Gina Carter. It was backed by Screen Australia’s multiplatform fund.
“The team and I are delighted that High Life has found a home with Fullscreen in the USA,” Eve said.
“Fullscreen is a perfect fit for the project and we are excited to get the word out about the series. They have been extremely supportive of myself, Glen Dolman and Adam Dolman as filmmakers and share our passion for telling engaging stories.”
High Life is a six-part series which follows 17 year old Genevieve, played by Odessa Young (The Daughter, Looking for Grace) as she experiences her first bout of bipolar mania.
It also stars Benson Jack Anthony (800 Words, Cleverman), Luke Pegler (Hacksaw Ridge), Brendan Donoghue (Blackrock, The Square), Paul Gleeson (Rake, Love Child) and Madeleine Madden (Around the Block, The Code).
High Life premiered earlier this year in Australia on both 9Go! and 9Now, and is also available in French speaking territories via Canalplay. It is currently up for six awards at the Melbourne WebFest, and seven awards at the T.O. Webfest in Toronto, including Best Series and Best Director at both.
Eve and the Dolmans also have a feature in development, with Brenton Thwaites attached to play the lead. Titled I Met A Girl, the film will follow an impulsive young musician with schizophrenia who falls for a mysterious woman, who may be all in his head. When she suddenly vanishes, he takes off across the country to find her.
High Life will premiere on Fullscreen May 26 to coincide with the USA’s Mental Health Awareness Month.
