Press release from WA Screen Academy
Short drama ‘The Bucks Party’ and ‘The Bubbleologist’, a five-minute documentary, are the two WA films selected to screen among the 14 finalists at the Bondi Short Film Festival on November 28.
‘The Bucks Party’ was written and directed by Mike Hoath and produced by Freya Brueschke. It uses the pre-wedding social ritual to explore the darker side of ‘bloke’ relationships. It is the second appearance at in a row Bondi for Mike Hoath. Last year his one-shot film ‘Dogs Run Loose Around Here’ was a powerful condemnation of ingrained racial prejudice in suburban Australia.
‘The Bubbleologist’ is a visually stunning profile of Andrew Suttar who has turned a childhood fascination into a lifelong passion for bubbles as entertainment, science and even philosophy. The film features outstanding cinematography by DOP/Editor Henrik Haug Hansen and special effects by Mikael Bones Olsen and Oyvind Opshaug.
Director John Rapsey was delighted to learn that the WA Screen Academy was the only training program in the country to have two films selected in this year’s Festival.
John and Associate Director Andrew Lewis will be available in Sydney November 17-20 to speak to potential applicants. John will be in Melbourne November 21-22.
