Bridie Carter stars in Brisbane Short Film

PRESS RELEASE

Logie nominated actress, Bridie Carter (McLeod’s Daughters) will play the lead role of Carolyn in the Brisbane short film ‘Nostalgia’ which is being roduced by award winning Gold Coast Production Company, Evolve Film Productions.

This independent film project has attracted some of Australia’s finest talent with Dominic Deutscher from Network Ten’s Mako Island of Secrets also attached, playing Dave. Awarding winning screenwriter, Vicki Englund has edited the script, which will be directed by Jordan Thwaites with David Mace-Kaff as Director of Photography and Lauren-Ann Smith Producing.

‘Nostalgia’ explores the complicated relationship between a mother affected by mental illness and her son Dave, who takes on a role of responsibility to care for her. Dave must make the decision to get his mother some help but is conflicted by his own needs. He struggles with the fact that if his deteriorating mother leaves him, he will be left alone.

“This is a film identifying the emotional trials that over 50% of the Australian population go through, who have experienced some form of mental illness directly or indirectly including depression, anxiety or substance abuse, told from David's perspective.” Said Mr Thwaites

“I was immediately taken by the bravery and rawness that is apparent in his script. I look forward to playing the role of Carolyn, a woman way beyond the two-dimensions often put forward in our female characters; a woman who has great conflict and tension, but completely fuelled by love. Nostalgia envelops its dark subject matter with the lightness of hope – a cinematic experience that will appeal to many audiences – one that is authentic and satisfying, beyond the skin-deep experience that is frequently offered on our screens.” Bridie Carter said.

‘Nostalgia’ is currently running a crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo.com. The filmmakers are asking the public to help raise the films budget, who in return will receive incredible rewards.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone who has ever wanted to be a part of a film and includes them in the film making process.” Mr Thwaites said.

You can support the campaign by offering as little as $1 and any contributions over $25 will receive a copy of the short film, exclusive access to the behind the scenes production log and a first look at the trailer upon release. Other rewards include the official graphic novel with extended ending, behind the scenes portraits signed by the cast and taken by on set photographer Louis Lim, a collector’s edition prop from the film and even an Associate Producer credit.

The campaign must reach its goal of $14,000 within 35 days, in order to make the film. This is only a portion of the total budget and the films creators hope to interact with Bridie’s fans and everyone who is affected by mental illness to raise the final piece.

Anyone can join the campaign to help make the short film and raise awareness for the effects of mental illness.

With successful funding, shooting will begin in January on location throughout Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
