Calling All Crew is a successful Australian freelance television crew agency, single handed managed and run by Maria Karambelas since its establishment.
In 1990 Maria Karambelas (known to her contacts as Maria Stunt at the time) channelled her knowledge and personable nature to create her service to achieve one vision – to source, nurture and offer the best crew for hire to the industry. Many aspiring freelancers sought to join this special agency but only the best were, and continue to be, selected. With the benefit of hindsight, this decision to set high standards for the industry proved to be the right one and many would provide testament to.
Right from the first day Maria took the time to personally interview and vet each new person that wishes to join the Calling All Crew team. This is perhaps a great differentiator for CAC, as the clients who book crew through her appreciate this personal touch as they can be confident knowing they are accessing experienced professionals for their needs.
CAC has always been ahead in terms of technology and innovation since its inception:
In 1992 Maria designed a custom application to automate the booking process – a first in the industry.
In 1997 www.callingallcrew.com debuted in the ether, one of the first relevant to the industry websites.
In 2002 she helped design an automated, interactive and real time booking system for the site, a first world wide back then.
Anyone who knows Maria can tell you she likes to help young blood enter the industry and gain experience. As a result, in 2004 she added two new categories to the CAC lists – Trainees and Apprentices. It proved to be a successful move as apart from giving a step-up for our youth entering the industry it offers more choice to her clients.
Although automation, texting and emails have made the business more efficient and responsive, the element of human interaction has never been compromised. Today still, Maria is always available on the phone or in person for advice, helping to solve problems or a just for a friendly chat.
