Cedar Boys issues open casting call

The producers of Cedar Boys will be holding an open casting session on Wednesday 30 April in Sydney’s South Western suburb Bankstown to find a young Middle Eastern actor to potentially play the lead role in the film.

The film, from writer/director Serhat Caradee, has already cast Australian actress Rachael Taylor in a lead role.

The $1.5m budgeted Cedar Boys was developed through the IndiVision Project Lab and last week was picked up for Australian distribution by Mushroom Pictures.

The filmmakers have stressed it’s not a publicity stunt and said they are looking for Middle Eastern looking males between the ages of 20-27 who are interested in acting in a film by, for and about Australia’s Middle Eastern community.

Cedar Boys follows the journey of three young Lebanese-Australian boys from the outer suburbs who can’t seem to get ahead in a society they believe excludes them.

Producer Ranko Markovic believes that not since unearthing Actor Alex Dimidriates in Heartbreak Kid, has the Australian film industry seen anything this exciting.

“The film will be an explosive real life look into the hearts and minds of young Australian Lebanese youth in Australia and their constant struggle for acceptance.  Only someone who has lived that experience can ever really bring depth to that role, that’s why we are excited about this casting process”.

Cedar Boys is being produced by Jeff Purser, Ranko Markovic and Matthew Dabner. The film has been co-financed by the Australian Film Commission’s IndiVision feature program and the New South Wales Film and Television Office.

Filming commences on June 16th 2008. Templar Films is producing.

The Call Out:
