SBS today welcomed the reappointment by the Federal Government of Dr Bulent Hass Dellal OAM as deputy chair and non-executive director of the SBS board.
Dr Dellal was appointed to the board in June 2010 and has been reappointed for a further three years from 3 June 2015.
Minister for Communications Malcolm Turnbull said: “The Government is delighted to support Dr Dellal’s reappointment as deputy chair. His considerable experience in multicultural affairs and strong connections with so many of the diverse cultures in our community is invaluable to SBS. Dr Dellal’s commitment to promoting cultural and religious diversity goes to the core of SBS’s purpose and the Government looks forward to working with him for three more years.”
SBS chairman Nihal Gupta said: “On behalf of the SBS board I am delighted Dr Dellal has been appointed for another term. We look forward to his continuing contributions to SBS’s strategic direction, with his close links to multicultural communities across Australia increasingly valuable, as SBS looks to engage more deeply with our diverse communities. Dr Dellal’s experience in multicultural affairs also gives SBS good insights into our content gathering and consultation with communities.”
SBS managing director and CEO, Michael Ebeid said: “Dr Dellal is a highly valued member of the SBS board. With his experience leading the SBS board as acting chair, as well as his comprehensive knowledge of SBS’s content and services, Dr Dellal has a strong understanding of SBS’s business priorities and the need to be innovative, agile, and efficient in today’s increasingly competitive media environment.
“Dr Dellal has provided valuable liaison with community members for SBS programming matters and assisted with a complex review of our in-language radio programming.”
