Environmental Film Festival Melbourne announces groundbreaking films

The Environmental Film Festival Melbourne is delighted to announce Bob Brown as patron for the 2013 festival, which runs 5-13 September at Kino Cinemas in Collins Place, Melbourne.

Opening night features Hidden Valley and Mining The Truth, two Australian shorts and world cinematic premieres linked by their exploration into the lives of mining communities in Papua New Guinea and Australia, followed by Bob Brown in conversation with the filmmakers.

“I am thrilled to be a patron of EFFM and to see a focus on Australian films. EFFM gives Australians a glimpse into the most pertinent environmental issues and reminds us that these issues are not all happening in faraway places, they are happening right here on our doorstep – and, it's time for all Australians to be a part of the solution,” says Brown.

The much anticipated festival opening includes an exclusive launch party at Strange Wolf Basement Bar with live music, drinks and canapés and a network of environmentalists, academics, activists, intellectuals and other interesting folk to mingle with.

In its fourth consecutive year, the 2013 festival program is better than ever, with an entertaining and engaging line-up of environmental documentaries, Australian and world premieres, films for activists, science geeks, foodies and families, and even the festival’s first ever narrative – an arthouse delight.

Trail rare-fruit obsessives across the globe in The Fruit Hunters, stand at the activist frontline to protect Australia’s last great wilderness from gas industry invasion in Heritage Fight, traverse the entrails of our cities in Lost Rivers, discover sand as a new and lucrative commodity in Sand Wars, solve the mystery of why bees are disappearing worldwide in More then Honey, and find out if sex can save the planet in F*ck for Forests.

The Environmental Film Festival Melbourne entertains with groundbreaking films, traversing the relationship between humans and their environments, challenging the way people think about the natural world and inspiring them to discuss, explore and act on important environmental issues.
