Fox Sports Wins AACTA Award With Gearhouse Broadcast Facilities

FOX SPORTS WINS AACTA AWARD WITH GEARHOUSE BROADCAST FACILITIES
Best live event production (subscription TV)

SYDNEY, 13 December 2016: The recent Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) gala evening saw Fox Sports take out the Best live event production (subscription TV) Award for their coverage of the 2015/16 Hyundai A-League Grand Final. All the broadcast facilities at the game were provided by Gearhouse Broadcast Australia.

Fox Sports’ executive producer – football, Murray Shaw, said, “Geoff Bullock and myself had the privilege of being honoured with an AACTA Award for the best coverage of a live event. The award recognised our coverage of this year’s A-League Grand Final between Western Sydney Wanderers and Adelaide United at Adelaide Oval back in May. We literally couldn’t have done it without the hard work of Gearhouse and all the crew employed to work on that game.”

Gearhouse provided all broadcast facilities and crew for the event for Fox Sports with their HD8 4K supertruck at the centre of the production. With its Sony 4K MVS 7000X vision mixer, Miranda NV8576 3G fully integrated Hybrid router, 30 HD cameras including four super slow motion and six POV, HD8 is an absolute powerhouse of a supertruck.

Shaw added, “The match was an extremely complex broadcast with hosting positions inside and out as well as coverage of trophy presentations, laps of honour and the obligatory popping of champagne corks in the rooms after the match. Throw in the use of Fox Shots and the Pico camera and we had plenty on our plates that afternoon. Not once was there any complaints with the difficulty of what we were trying to achieve and in fact at the end of the day it was one of the smoothest Grand Finals I’ve been involved with. All of that is because of the professionalism of the Gearhouse staff and crew.”

According to Shaw Gearhouse were responsible for providing a technically flawless four hours of live television and despite revisions to the spec and schedule leading up to the broadcast, their comprehensive pre-planning kept both facilitator and broadcaster in a tight and efficient working partnership.

Murray Shaw concluded, “So in summary Geoff, myself and all of us here at Fox Sports want to acknowledge the award we received on Monday was not just for us, not just for Fox Sports but for Gearhouse and everyone who played any part in making that broadcast as good as it was. We set ourselves a high standard and we achieved it in Adelaide.”
