Foxtel today announced it had boosted its exclusive movie offering after finalising a distribution arrangement with Studiocanal which completes agreements with four of Australia’s key independent movie distributors. In addition to Studiocanal, Foxtel has already signed exclusive deals with Hopscotch Entertainment One, ICON, and Transmission Films.
These deals will see premiere movies and classic library titles supplied to Foxtel Movies channels, available to customers of Foxtel, Foxtel Play, and the soon to be launched online and on-demand movie service Presto.
Foxtel Chief Executive, Richard Freudenstein said, “We are excited to finalise these exclusive arrangements with key independent movie distributors. This will ensure Foxtel Movies continues to deliver our customers the widest choice of new release and classic films, over flexible distribution platforms, including our brand new online and on-demand movie service Presto, launching soon.”
Upcoming premiere titles from these key independent studios will include:
Studiocanal: The Impossible starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor; sci-fi/romance flick The Host based on the Stephanie Meyer novel; and The Way Way Back featuring Toni Collette and Steve Carell.
· Hopscotch Entertainment One: multi AACTA Award-winning The Sapphires (now showing); Seven Psychopaths; Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine; coming next year, The Butler with Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey; and Nicole Kidman in Grace of Monaco
Icon: Oscar Award-winning Zero Dark Thirty with Jessica Chastain and Joel Edgerton (now showing); director Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave, with Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender; and Ender’s Game with Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley (coming next year).
Transmission: diversity in films like Cannes award-winner Amour; to outrageous Aussie comedy in Paul Fenech’s Housos vs Authority (now showing); coming next year, The Best Offer with Geoffrey Rush; Railway Man with Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman; and Tracks with Mia Wasikowska – a highly anticipated film from the producers of The King’s Speech.
The deals also provide access to an extensive library of highlights and classic movies from the distributors, including titles like Apocalypse Now: Redux and the Saw franchise (Studiocanal), Bra Boys and Transamerica (Hopscotch Entertainment One), Good Night and Good Luck and Far From Heaven (Icon).
