The 8th edition of HIFF concluded on Saturday night with a screening of 12 finalist films. Taking top awards were Masala Mama by Michael Kam from Singapore (Best Film), Kevin is… by Matt Mirams from Melbourne Australia (Most Original Concept) and Riding in Between by Greg Stehle from Rapid Creek NT Australia (Achievement).
Masala Mama was voted the crowd's favourite and took the Audience Choice Award also.
Cleo's Boogie by Camera-etc from Belgium and Broken Wings by Jonathan Persson from Sydney Australia were the runner up and received Special Mention by the Judges.
Harmony International Film Fest director & founder Mehrzad Mumtahan added: "we really enjoyed the variety and quality of the entries on the theme of friendship this year and are happy to be discovering new talent year after year". "This year's festival broke previous years' record of local entries and eight out of twelve films in the competition were from Australian filmmakers, which we are very pleased about. With the rise of social networking we have a lot of friends but very little friendships these days; we hope these films will highlight the importance of true friendship and association" he added.
