The Hollywood roles keep coming for Jai Courtney. After playing the son of Bruce Willis’ John McClane in A Good Day to Die Hard and a sniper in Jack Reacher, the Aussie actor has been cast in movies directed by Angelina Jolie and Russell Crowe.
First up is Jolie’s Unbroken, the Universal-financed drama now shooting at the Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast. Jack O’Connell stars as Louis Zamperini, a US Olympic athlete who was captured by the Japanese during WWII after his plane was shot down.
Courtney is playing Hugh Cuppernell, a veteran pilot who gets caught in a fierce aerial battle alongside Zamperini, according to Deadline.com.
After that he will segue into Crowe’s The Water Diviner, the saga of an Australian farmer named Connor (Crowe) who travels to Turkey to try to find his sons who went missing during WWII.
Courtney will play Lt-Col Cecil Hilton, who leads the efforts to identify the tens of thousands of soldiers killed at Gallipoli, Deadline reports. He allows Connor to look for his sons’ bodies. Olga Kurylenko plays the owner of a hotel in Istanbul who joins Connor in the hunt.
Hopscotch Features and Crowe’s Fear of God Films are producing The Water Diviner, which starts shooting in Australia and Turkey in December.
