Filmmakers have until 6 June 2014 to enter the inaugural CinéfestOZ Film Prize, a $100,000 award open to Australian feature films that meet eligibility criteria.
CinéfestOZ, Western Australia’s film festival dedicated to Australian and French film (20 – 24 August 2014) launched the $100,000 film prize in December 2013, after securing a new three-year sponsorship arrangement with the State Government’s event agency, Eventscorp.
CinefestOZ film selector Helen Shervington says the CinéfestOZ Film Prize will support the nation’s vibrant industry, draw international attention to Australian films and provide a premier showcase of new Australian feature films to the Festival.
“CinéfestOZ attracts a calibre of Australian films each August similar to Sydney and Melbourne film festivals. Last year’s line-up included great films like Mystery Road, The Rocket and These Final Hours, the latter of which screened recently at Cannes film festival. This is a fantastic achievement for the Perth-based director of These Final Hours, Zak Hilditch and we will continue to bring films of this ilk to CinéfestOZ.
“CinéfestOZ offers Australian filmmakers an exciting platform to showcase their films, significant forums to explore future projects and funding and a professionally delivered, yet very friendly film festival experience in one of the most attractive tourism regions in the nation. It now offers Australia’s richest film prize.
“Those who take the trip to CinéfestOZ are embarking on an inspirational journey. With so many festival activities and industry guests it is easy to immerse yourself in film. Equally, our increasingly film-friendly South West is famed for its wineries, surf and breathtaking natural beauty, making it a place to reflect,” she said.
Submissions for the Film Prize are open to Australian feature films and feature length documentaries that meet the eligibility criteria.
Shortlisted films vying for the CinéfestOZ Film Prize will premiere for the first time in Western Australia at the CinéfestOZ film festival, 20 – 24 August 2014. Filmmakers have until 6 June 2014 (5pm WST) to enter.
The Call for Submissions phase opened 7 March, with the Entry Rules and Regulations and online entry form available at www.cinefestoz.com.
CinefestOZ is supported by the State Government through Eventscorp’s Regional Events Program, which is funded by Royalties for Regions. CinéfestOZ acknowledges its strong partnership with ScreenWest, Western Australia's screen funding and development agency.
