After years on stage touring with some of Australia’s biggest music theatre smash-hits, actor Jeremy Stanford finds himself once again back on the road… this time with his film The Sunset Six.
After a huge career in music theatre, actor Jeremy Stanford is no stranger to performing in front of a crowd. Highlights include his performance as Buddy in The Buddy Holly Story, and performances in High Society, Hello Dolly!, Sweet Charity and the highest grossing Australian musical of all time, Priscilla Queen of the Desert – The Musical, where he played Hugo Weaving’s famous role of Tick. Most recently Jeremy starred alongside Lisa McCune, Gyton Grantley and Christine Anu in South Pacific.
“I guess music has always been a huge part of my life – both on and off the stage”, says Stanford. “When I was thinking about my first film, I always knew it’d have something to do with rock’n’roll.”
His directorial debut The Sunset Six is a feel-good musical comedy about a washed-up 80s rock star who has to get the band back together to land the recording deal of a lifetime. The film recently screened at Melbourne’s Cinema Nova and after touring to Adelaide and New Zealand, Stanford is now set to open at Hoyts Entertainment Quarter for an event screening on Friday July 19 at 7pm.
“I’ve been playing in bands since I was in high school,” continues Stanford, “For me, it’s always been one of the greatest things you can do and I don’t think there’s anything quite like it. I think it was Sting who said being in a band is like being in a gang – and that is part of what I was trying to do — capture that feeling of being in a band – like an out-of-control rollercoaster ride with a bunch of people who you bond with through music.”
