National release for The Sunnyboy documentary

Feature documentary The Sunnboy starts a national release with Palace Cinemas on September 14.

Over two years in the making, the doc follows Jeremy Oxley, the enigmatic front man of the much-lauded 80’s band the Sunnyboys as he emerges from a 30-year battle with schizophrenia. Only recently stabilised with medication and secure in a loving environment, Jeremy  unpicks the confused thoughts and feelings he has about his painful past. Unsure of what is real and what is misconstrued, Jeremy tentatively revisits relationships damaged by his illness, most significantly with his brother and fellow band member Peter. With the support of his partner Mary, Jeremy also struggles with the physical ravages of his illness and years of a destructive lifestyle as well as the many relationship challenges they face as they prepare for marriage. Told largely from his own perspective, the doc  follows Jeremy as his confidence and wellbeing slowly grows and he dares to contemplate a return to the stage.

The film premiered in June at the Sydney Opera House for the Vivid Festival, in partnership with the Sydney Film Festival. The film received a standing ovation from the sell out 1,300 audience as Jeremy, Mary and Peter took the stage.

The Sunnyboy begins  a national cinema release with Palace Cinemas from September 14. A series of special one off event screenings in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra and Byron Bay which include a Q&A with director Kaye Harrison and either Mary or Peter. Jeremy will help launch the release when he attends the first event in Brisbane. For ticket sales and/or more information go to www.thesunnyboy.com.au
