NSW FTO to host international media leadership program

The New South Wales Film and Television Office (FTO) will host the innovative Asia-Australia Media Executive Leadership Program (AAMELP) in Sydney from 23 to 28 November, 2008.

The FTO has partnered with Singapore’s Media Development Authority and ScreenWest to bring AAMELP to Sydney for the first time and is offering five scholarships to senior and mid-level NSW screen professionals to participate in the course. AAMELP will return to Singapore in 2009.

AAMELP is a five-day course designed to develop entrepreneurial, strategic leadership and management skills to enable participants to strengthen their companies and to better meet the challenges of the evolving global marketplace. It is a partner program to the Leadership Program for European Media Executives held in Halle, Germany, and the North American Media Executive Program held in Banff, Canada, each year.

“Supporting this key executive training program is a valuable element of the Iemma Government’s support for the New South Wales’ screen industry” said Arts Minister, Frank Sartor.

“Our screen industry support is targeted to four areas: infrastructure, production incentives, training and regulation. Assisting NSW professionals to adapt their leadership skills to meet the changing needs of the industry across this region, will strengthen the future of this important sector of the NSW economy”.

AAMELP offers a unique and proven blend of disciplined exposure to high-level industry specific information, senior level leadership and management training, and personal inventories to better assess individual strengths and weakness as well as insights into team-building and performance.

The program will draw on extensive international industry expertise in its core faculty and the guest executives. In the course, specific case studies translate management and leadership development into applied, real situations in the industry. AAMELP includes a rigorous pre-course preparation process, including reading and evaluation, as well as follow-up activities at the one-month, three-month and six-month stage.

The focus of AAMELP is on:
· strategic thinking and planning
· understanding the changing world of television and application of leadership practices
· branding and market positioning
· personal leadership style
· human resources, change and innovation leadership
· integrating television and media industry processes
· building asset value through sustainable strategy, alliances, mergers & acquisitions as well as providing networking and other professional development experiences

Since 1995, hundreds of media industry leaders from around the world have participated in this course. To read a report by Ric Curtin, sound designer and owner of Curtin Productions, about his experience as a participant at AAMELP 2007click here.
