Perth reading for The Infidels

Press release from Sam Whiteley:

Award wining director and writer Martin Wilson of WA’s prestigious Soul Films has teamed up with actor David Moore to produce a compelling contemporary political tale of terrorism and racism.

The Infidels is a gripping drama set in suburban Perth and its dark modern themes will be revealed to the public for the first time at PAC Script Lab Wed. 2nd December.

It’s the eve of the Australia Day Long Weekend and on the outskirts of suburban Perth, a schoolgirl – covered head to toe in blood – arrives at the doorstep of her local police station. The blood, it turns out, isn’t hers. And tattooed into her back is a website address:www.infidels.com.au.

When the police log on, a webcam reveals a masked terrorist holding a classroom of children to ransom. The demands are simple: Australia is a country of infidels – nonbelievers- and a new order must now be established.

Martin Wilson is one half of the highly successful Perth based Soul Films production company that has won numerous local and international awards for its outstanding television commercials and drama production, including the award winning Wait ‘Til Your Father Gets Home short drama and telemovie Roll.

“The aim David and I have had while writing The Infidels is to examine contemporary themes such as fear, identity and paranoia which festers under the surface in multi cultural Australia, then fuse these issues into a classic hostage thriller plot, like an Australian version of the Manchurian Candidate" says Martin.

While David Moore currently supports himself as an actor and has written for the stage (including The Loss, seen at the Blue Room in 2006), The Infidels is his first screenplay.

To hear The Infidels being read by professional actors along with the chance to offer your valuable feedback, join PAC Script Lab at Subiaco Arts Centre on Wed. Dec 2nd at 6pm. Complimentary wine and nibbles will also be on offer. Suitable for those 15 years & over.
