Richard Hains’ award-winning novel, CHAMELEON – a financial thriller set in the heart of Wall Street – has been adapted to a feature film by Australian based writer, Mac Gudgeon (THE DELINQUENTS, LAST RIDE).
The film will be produced by Richard Hains and Mark Pennell at Resolution Independent, directed by Richard Gibson (A MESSAGE FROM FALLUJAH) and acclaimed composer Marius de Fries (MOULIN ROUGE, EASY VIRTUE) is attached to score.
The project, which is in development, is set in the traumatic post 2008 financial crisis environment making it highly contemporary and topical. CHAMELEON will be available at the 2009 Cannes International Film Festival next month through Resolution Independent.
Richard Hains said: “What differentiates Chameleon from other thrillers is that both the novel and screenplay have been written from the inside of the financial markets looking out, whereas virtually all others have been written from the outside looking in. The screenplay has been adapted to capture the drama of the current post credit crisis environment; we use this trauma by weaving it through the structure of the screenplay creating a fast moving, exciting and highly sophisticated storyline. It is truly unique.”
Hains is a 20-year veteran of the financial business and runs a substantial private hedge fund which invests in the U.S., European and Australian equity, fixed income and foreign exchange markets. Hains uses his expertise as the background for his highly provocative CHAMELEON to expose the indulgences, vanity and greed of the financial community.
The film will be produced in Australia so as to utilize the lucrative rebate and tax incentive programs introduced by the Australian Government in 2008.
CHAMELEON is poised to be the first post Lehman Brothers story – set in a completely redefined financial landscape after the era of easy money and high living.
