Actor Rhys Wakefield has been cast in the Michael Bay-produced sci-fi thriller, Vigilandia.
The former Home and Away star joins a cast that includes Ethan Hawke (Daybreakers) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, 300).
According to horror news website Bloody Disgusting, the film is the first installment in a planned post-apocalyptic franchise that Bay is producing alongside Paranormal Activity's Jason Blum.
Set in the future, the story follows a regime called "New Founding Fathers of America." The organisation seeks to control an outbreak of violence and crime with a movement called "The Cure" – an event which allows murder to be legalised for 12 hours, three times a year.
The film is helmed by writer-director James DeMonaco, who has previously penned the screenplays for Assault on Precinct 13 and Robin Williams vehicle Jack.
Wakefield was most recently seen on screen in claustrophobic cave thriller Sanctum. In 2008 he was nominated for an IF Award for his performance in The Black Balloon.
