Screen Australia appoints two managers

Press release from Screen Australia

Michael Gordon-Smith takes up the new position of Manager, Strategy and Research from 1 June, 2009. Michael joins Screen Australia from an impressive background in film and media. Michael has most recently been working as a strategy and management consultant in the media, Government and publishing sectors.

Previously he has headed Marketing and Development at AFTRS and has been a Board Member of the Australian Broadcasting Authority, an Associate Member of the Australian Communications Authority, and Executive Director of SPAA and a Director of the Audio Visual Copyright Society (now Screenrights). Among his career achievements, Michael helped established AFTR’s Centre for Screen Business and presided over the landmark ‘Cash For Comment’ Inquiry into commercial radio.

Nick Coyle takes on the role of Manager, Governance from 15 June, allowing a two week hand-over with Sophie Harper who has been ably acting in the role for 10 months (and who by the way heads off to Denmark to embark on a teaching career at the European Film College).

Nick joins Screen Australia from a diverse background in corporate policy, project management, compliance and investment banking. Nick joins us directly from Ausfilm, where he has been in the role of Policy and Corporate Service Executive since 2005. Previous to his position at Ausfilm Nick has worked for international investment banks Schroder Salomon Smith Barney and Deutshce Bank, focusing on due diligence, compliance reporting and equities research.

These are two critical roles within the organisation and will work with all departments to help build an envisioned future for Screen Australia as we enter into a very important strategic planning process that will result in a three year corporate plan.
