Short play fest Short+Sweet has events in nine countries and 25 cities. Since launching in Sydney sixteen years ago, it’s presented over 5,000 new works in theatre, music and dance created by over 3,000 writers.
Now Sydney Short+Sweet is set to become the first to incorporate film. Music and dance have long been important elements of the story-telling at the festival, according to inaugural festival directors Ali Crew and Angela Blake, making the move to screen a natural one.
“It also perfectly coincides with the launch of the first ever Short+Sweet theatre program in the US – in the world epicentre of movies:
Short+Sweet Hollywood this September 2016 at the Stella Adler Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard,” said Crew.
The festival is now calling for entries from anywhere in the world for its debut year. One submission gains entrants consideration for 11 festivals around Australia and internationally, including Brisbane, Canberra, Auckland, Wellington, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Manila, Chennai, Dubai and Hollywood, with additional locations to come in the festival's second year.
All films must be 10 minutes or less, with the winning film will be screened in LA at the Short+Sweet Hollywood Film Festival in September 2017.
