State Library presents 1939 classics

Next Sunday at 2pm  the Festival and State Library NSW shall present the first of three films from Hollywood’s Golden Year 1939. These are high definition restorations with  Errol Flynn, Greta Garbo and Charles Laughton in their greatest roles and directed by three of cinema’s finest!

The three films over consecutive Sundays,  February 28 – March 6 and 13, are Dodge City in Technicolor directed by Michael Curtiz, music by Max Steiner and with Errol Flynn and Olivia De Havilland- Ninotchka directed by Ernst Lubitsch and with Greta Garbo – The Hunchback of Notre Dame directed by William Dieterle and with Charles Laughton and Maureen O’Hara

The first film is a western with Australian born swashbuckler Flynn as a cattle agent who sees lawlessness  and pins on a badge to clean it up. Does he succeed? Swashbucklers usually do and along the way he confronts lynch mobs, throws outlaws into jail and escapes a fiery, locked railroad car…and woos Olivia de Havilland. All of this wooing and winning of the west takes place in 104 minutes of vivid Technicolor and excitement.

Would you please assist in spreading the word. More details about the films can be accessed at the Festival website.
