Summer Coda has posted similar numbers to Australia/French co-production The Tree in its opening weekend.
The Richard Gray film, starring Rachael Taylor and Alex Dimitriades, took in $64,307 in its opening weekend, from 24 screens, giving it an average of $2679. This adds to the film's preview screen tally of $7865.
Filmed in and around Mildura, Summer Coda is the first feature film from Victorian production team Revival Film Company.
Dean Francis’ Road Train – which opened in just South Australia last Thursday on seven screens – had a similar opening to Triangle earlier this year, posting $6063, giving it a screen average of just $866.
The $2.2 million film, starring Xavier Samuel and Sophie Lowe, tells the tale of a group of four teenagers on a camping holiday in outback Australia who are the victims of road rage and end up pursued by a driverless road train.
Animal Logic animated movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole made an additional $211,755 while teen action flick Tomorrow, When The War Began took in an extra $137,230 during its eight week.
Life As We Know It, which had funding from Village Roadshow, made second spot making $1,934,444 losing to Paranormal Activity 2, which made $2,665,028 across 185 screens.
The Tree made $17,891 from 16 screens in its fourth week while Kiwi movie Boy took in another $44,685.
