PRESS RELEASE
This summer, ABC TV is set to delight and entertain with a wide range of programs from across all genres.
ABC1 is embracing the Christmas spirit, with specials galore – in particular DOCTOR WHO, fast tracked from the UK. This will be Matt Smith’s last outing as the Doctor, and is not to be missed.
Christmas episodes of MISS FISHER’S MURDER MYSTERIES, POH’S KITCHEN, NIGELLISSIMA and TRACTOR MONKEYS are sure to delight – along with THE AGONY OF CHRISTMAS and MR STINK, a heart warming story for all the family based on comedian David Walliams’ book.
Mystery buffs are in for a treat, with the final ever series of AGATHA CHRISTIE’S MISS MARPLE and a new series of FOYLE’S WAR – as well as the dramatisation of Ian Fleming’s life in FLEMING: THE MAN WHO WOULD BE BOND, Stephen Fry’s role in the heist film DOORS OPEN, a new episode of JONATHAN CREEK and the acclaimed Australian film MYSTERY ROAD.
On ABC2, the final three OPENING SHOT films will be broadcast during December, showcasing the work of emerging documentary makers. Loads of other factual and drama series will also air during the summer, but the channel is devoting Christmas to comedy, packing each night with a selection of past favourites and new series over the period. As part of this, make sure to check out ABC2 XMAS QUICKIES, a series of interstitials in which seven Australian comedy teams offer their hilarious take on Christmas.
The under fives won’t want to miss OCTONAUTS: A VERY VEGIMALS CHRISTMAS – or the new series of MISTER MAKER AROUND THE WORLD.
Meanwhile, older kids will be well catered for with the MIGHTY MIGHTY MONSTERS: NEW FEAR’S EVE SPECIAL, a gripping new drama CONSPIRACY 365 and an Australia Day special event including both the ABC3 SMACKDOWN GAMES! and a hilarious new animated series THE FLAMIN’ THONGS.
Over on ABC News 24, two new interview programs will premiere during the summer, both produced and presented by Angela Pulvirenti.
