PRESS RELEASE
Sydney, Australia – 25 Feb 2014: Rapid Films has announced the signing of acclaimed director Taylor Steele. Well known in the advertising world for his direction of the Corona television campaign From Where You’d Rather Be, stunningly shot on location in and around Mexico, Steele’s work captured an effortless lifestyle with a beauty and naturalness rarely observed in a commercial context.
Steele is best known for his documentary and surfing film work and has spent the last two decades directing and producing over 40 best selling titles starring the world’s best surfers and musicians. From his groundbreaking film Momentum at the age of 17, to the multi awarded Drifter and Castles in the Sky films later in his career.
Most recently Steele’s film Missing, about world champion surfer Mick Fanning, won The Australian Surf Awards 2014 Movie of The Year. Fanning himself credited the film in playing an important role on his journey to winning the 2013 world title.
Steele said he had been dabbling in the advertising world for the past few years.
“For me signing on at Rapid Films is really about committing to the expanding of my film making,” he said. “I’m taking my approach a bit further a field in the hopes of creating something new and meaningful for agencies and brands.”
Rapid films executive producer Susannah Dilallo said they were thrilled to have Taylor on board.
“He was relatively inaccessible for a long time, so we’re honoured to have him join the Rapid team,” she said. “For us our aim isn’t to just grow for the sake of it, we are only interested in like minded people who have talent and passion as well as a healthy love for life. I think in Taylor we have found a perfect fit.”
Taylor will be joining an award winning team at Rapid with directors Dave Klaiber, Jonathan Nyquist and James Pilkington. All of who are looking forward to what Steele adds to the mix. Klaiber said that he had grown up watching Steele’s films. “He is an acutely sensitive and emotive storyteller, who can rip it up with the best of them,” he said.
“I’m excited to be working with the talented crew at Rapid films. It’s going to be a fun journey together,” Steele concluded.
