The awkward foursome of Jay, Neil, Simon and Will from successful UK comedy series, The Inbetweeners are being reunited in the follow-up to 2011’s The Inbetweeners Movie, this time taking their ill-fated escapades to the Land Down Under.
Having begun production in Queensland, just last Saturday, December 7th, the sequel will continue shooting in locations across Australia until late January when the team will return to the UK.
Roadshow Films has secured the Australian distribution rights to the hotly anticipated comedy, which will be directed by the series creators, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, who have also written the script. Spencer Millman (The Mighty Boosh, Man Down) is on board as producer.
Starting out as a series on E4, The Inbetweeners won multiple awards and after three full seasons, it went on to enjoy great success with its debut film, The Inbetweeners Movie. Fully financed by Channel 4/Film4 and distributed by Roadshow Films in Australia, the film was a huge local success, grossing over $9.2m. It spent four weeks at the top of the UK box office charts.
Produced by Bwark Productions, a Zodiak Media company, who will co-finance with Channel 4/Film4, The Inbetweeners Movie 2 will be distributed in the UK by Entertainment Film Distributors. It will be released in Australian cinemas in August, 2014 by Roadshow Films.
