‘The New Boy’, ‘Colin From Accounts’ included in AWGIE nominations

Writer/directors have dominated the feature film categories for this year’s AWGIE Awards, to be presented in Sydney next month.

The field for the original feature film award includes Head South‘s Jonathan Ogilvie, Late Night with the Devil‘s Colin and Cameron Cairnes, The New Boy‘s Warwick Thornton, and The Rooster‘s Mark Leonard Winter, while Blueback‘s Robert Connolly will square off against The Royal Hotel writing duo Oscar Redding with Kitty Green in the adapted feature film category.

In the television – series category, Tony McNamara gets a nod for a final season episode of The Great, going up against The Newsreader‘s Kim Ho and Totally Completely Fine‘s Keir Wilkins.

Neighbours returns to fold in the TV serial nominations after being revived by Amazon Freevee last year, with Sarah Mayberry and Jason Herbison to vie for an award alongside Home and Away‘s Paige Montague and Louise Bowes, and Eastenders‘ Peter Mattessi.

Battling it out for the limited series prize are The Clearing‘s Elise McCredie, The House Across the Street‘s Giula Sandler, and The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart team of Sarah Lambert, Kirsty Fisher and Kim Wilson.

Colin From Accounts creators Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer have his and her nominations in the Comedy – Situation or Narrative category, alongside In Limbo‘s Tamara Asmar and A Christmas Ransom‘s Elliot Vella, Gretel Vella and Timothy Walker.

For Comedy – Sketch or Light Entertainment, the Gruen Nation team of James Colley, Bec Melrose, Kirsten Drysdale, Angela Lavoipierre and Cameron James will be up against The Last Year of Television: 2022‘s Mitch McTaggart, and Rob Hunter for The Weekly: The Week in TV feat. Margaret Pomeranz.

In children’s television, horror-comedy Crazy Fun Park picked up two nominations (Nicholas Verso and Magda Wozniak), competing with episodes of Turn Up the Volume (Chloe Wong, Penelope Chai and Matthew Bon) and season two of Mikki vs the World (Gemma Bird Matheson).

The preschool category sees a tussle between ABC Kids programs, as Beep and Mort (Amy Stewart and Charlotte Rose Hamlyn) goes up against Kangaroo Beach (Charlotte Rose Hamlyn, Tim Bain, and Rebekka Schafferius).

The 56th Annual AWGIE Awards on Thursday, February 15 at the Parade Theatre at NIDA in Sydney.
