US remake for Secrets & Lies

The US ABC network has commissioned a 10-part series adapted from Hoodlum Entertainment’s drama Secrets & Lies.

That’s the second US remake for Hoodlum, whose comedy/mystery The Strange Calls is being developed for the same network by 20th TV.

Network Ten commissioned Secrets & Lies, a six-part series starring Martin Henderson as Ben, an ordinary family man who finds the body of a young boy and becomes the prime murder suspect. Ben searches for the killer as he strives to save his marriage, his kids, his reputation and his sanity.

Diana Glen plays his wife, Anthony Hayes is a detective and Adrienne Pickering is a neighbour.

Hoodlum’s Tracey Robertson and Nathan Mayfield will produce the US series with ABC Studios and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, which is partnered with Hoodlum on The Strange Calls.

Hoodlum's Australian-based Leigh McGrath will continue to develop drama projects for the company as Robertson and Mayfield divide their responsibilities between the US and Oz.

Robertson heads to the US today. The story broke on Deadline.com, which said the casting process is underway and a showrunner will be hired to oversee the production.

Secrets & Lies is based on an original idea by author Stephen M Irwin, who wrote the scripts. Kate Dennis directed the first three episodes and Peter Salmon directed the other three.
