Press release from WA Screen Academy
Five short films and two documentaries attracted 15 nominations in the WA Screen Awards – WA’s version of the Oscars – including Best Film, Best Documentary (2 nominations), Best Director, Best Actress/Actor (3 nominations) Best Screenplay and also nominations for Best Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Sound and Original Musical Composition (2).
The WA Screen Awards gala ceremony will be held at the Perth Concert Hall on Saturday March 6th.
Edith Cowan University’s undergraduate Film and Video students attracted major nominations for Best Short Animation, Best Tertiary Film and Best Music Video. Graduates from the Screen Academy and WAAPA added another 5 nominations to bring the total to 23 – one or more nominations in every category they were eligible to enter. This confirms ECU’s reputation as a centre of excellence in screen education and training.
John Rapsey, Director of the WA Screen Academy attributes this success to the high calibre and commitment of applicants, the quality guidance provided by industry mentors and the very fruitful collaboration with WAAPA, now in its sixth year. “This has enabled us to graduate teams of people – producers, directors, writers, actors, composers and production personnel who are making their mark, getting employed in the industry and coming together in various combinations to make films.”
