Australian feature Wasted On The Young has been acquired by international sales agent Fortissimo Films.
It is also understood that a deal is currently being negotiated with a local distributor for Australian/New Zealand rights.
The film tells the story of a traumatic high school incident that sets off a fatal chain of events for two brothers.
It stars Oliver Ackland (The Proposition), Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and newcomer Alex Russell.
The Western Australian feature was written and directed by Ben C. Lucas and produced by Janelle Landers and Aidan O’Bryan. It was shot by cinematographer Dan Freene on the Panavision Genesis.
Consulting producer (and former Screen Australia assessor) Scott Meek originally introduced the producers to Fortissimo chairman Michael J. Werner. Meek mentored both producers during the production.
ScreenWest invested $750,000 in the film via its low budget feature film fund, West Coast Visions. The agency plans to hold the next round in March 2011 year to allow local filmmakers greater project development time.
Another local upcoming feature film, Blame, also received funding via West Coast Visions.
