Jackass sits on top of box office

By Brendan Swift

Prank movie Jackass 3D remains atop the Australian box office in its second week at cinemas ahead of Facebook film The Social Network.

Jackass 3D grossed more than $1.9 million across 198 screens for an impressive screen average of $9682. It has now taken almost $6.6 million across two weekends.

The Social Network posted $1.46 million in its third weekend while low-budget sci-fi film Skyline scored third place with $1.25 million in its opening weekend. The Hopscotch-distributed film was shown across 181 screens giving it a screen average of $6889.

Meanwhile, Sony-distributed action film Machete topped the limited release tables with $149,881 across 50 screens, giving it a screen average of $2998.

Among Australian films, horror-comedy The Loved Ones continued its disappointing run, posting a 50 per cent drop in its second weekend.

The film took $60,343 across 89 screens leaving it with a screen average of just $678.

Aussie romance Summer Coda grossed another $16,586 in its fourth weekend – a 36 per cent fall compared to the previous week – across 17 screens.

The animated Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole added another $39,282 in its seventh week as it approaches the end of its cinematic run.
