Foxtel’s A&E channel has commissioned an Australian version of the popular factual entertainment series American Pickers.
The 10-part Aussie Pickers will similarly follow two “pickers” who hit the back roads and barnyards of Australia, earning a living by restoring forgotten relics to their former glory. It will be produced by reality production house Shine Australia for A&E for broadcast in 2013.
Foxtel executive director of television Brian Walsh said "American Pickers is one of the most popular shows on our newly-launched factual entertainment channel A&E and this local version will undoubtably capture the interest and imagination of Australian audiences and provide an excellent opportunity to further extend the brand”.
American Pickers was first broadcast in January 2010 and the premiere episode attracted 3.1 million viewers, making it the highest rated History channel debut in three years.
The hosts of Aussie Pickers are expected to be announced shortly.
