World of Women: WOW Film Festival 2013

Well known Australian women filmmakers Cate Shortland (award winning writer/director Lore, Somersault) , Margaret Pomeranz (At the Movie presenter), Kristy Best (actor/director, Sunday Best ABC 2 presenter) and Gretel Killeen (writer/filmmaker/comedienne) are supporting the 19th WORLD OF WOMEN WOW FILM FESTIVAL Liz Watts, acclaimed producer of Animal Kingdom, Lore, Little Fish, Dead Europe is the WOW Patron for 2013. Key screen industry guilds – cinematographers, editors, directors and composers will present awards at the festilval. Tamara Popper, (producer
of feature film Monkey Puzzle) is the new WOW Festival Director.

The WOW Film Festival is the largest film festival in the southern hemisphere specifically focused on the story-telling of women – The 19th WORLD OF WOMEN WOW FILM FESTIVAL will be held in Sydney, March 2013, opening on Tuesday 5th March and screening to Friday 15th March at prestigious venues including the Dendy Opera Quays, AFTRS and UTS.

The WOW Tour then travels to major cities and many regional areas throughout Australia during the year and also provides films to be showcased at other International Festivals. In 2012 the WOW Film Festival screened 39 films featuring 13 World premieres, 10 Australian premieres and 5 Sydney premieres.

WOW, a prestigious internationally recognized festival, has an exciting, diverse showcase of contemporary short films, fiction, documentary, animation and experimental. Also features forums and film retrospectives. WOW’s Digivodule Competition finalists will screen on Youtube and WOW’s FestivalOnline will screen throughout March.

World of Women: WOW Film Festival 2013 will launch at City of Sydney Library, Customs House on Tuesday 5 March from 12.30 to 1.30pm. Opening Night will commence at Dendy Opera Quays with drinks 6.00pm followed by the screening of an imaginative selection of Australian Shorts at 7pm. The official WOW Festival Opening After Party will be held at Opera Bar.

WOW Film festival will screen for 3 evenings at Dendy Opera Quays 5th to 7th March. In development is the screening at NSW Parliament House Theatre 6th March, 12.00pm. There will be an Awards Night on March 7th with drinks at 6pm, 7pm screening and after party at Opera Bar.

Cate Shortland, award winning film director, will curate a retrospective of Shorts by eminent Australian women filmmakers at the International
Women’s Day Celebration event which will be held at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) on Friday 8th March. The event
commences at 5pm with a forum, ‘Women in Film” an AFTRS Friday On My Mind session, followed by the two screenings. At 6.30pm an exciting session of Australian and International Shorts and at 8pm the special Eminent Women’s screening.

Margaret Pomeranz, from “At the Movies” will present an “In Conversation” event at Surry Hills Library on 14th March at 6pm.

“Tricky Women” is an animation session curated by the Sydney Animation Festival Director, Deborah Szapiro, where women’s animation works from
Australia and around the world will screen at Theatre 322, University of Technology Sydney (UTS) on 15th March, 7pm. Other screenings of feature films and shorts are in development and will be announced in January.
