Filming will wrap this week in Sydney on writer/director Damien Power’s debut feature film, survival thriller Killing Ground.
Produced by Joe Weatherstone and Lisa Shaunessy, the film stars Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road, Goldstone), Ian Meadows (The Moodys, 8MMM), Harriet Dyer (Love Child, Ruben Guthrie) and Aaron Glenane (Molly, Deadline Gallipoli).
In Killing Ground, a young couple’s camping trip turns into a violent ordeal when they stumble across the scene of a shocking crime.
Shot on location in and around Sydney, the film also features Maya Stange, Julian Garner and Tiarnie Coupland.
Power and Weatherstone have collaborated for over a decade. Their award-winning short, Peekaboo, starring Justine Clarke, screened at numerous festivals, including Busan, SFF and MIFF, in 2011.
Since Peekaboo, Power has directed short films including Boot and Bat Eyes. Bat Eyes was selected as a finalist in the YouTube Your Film Festival at the Venice Film Festival in 2012. His latest short, Hitchhiker, made as a recipient of an AFTRS creative fellowship, is currently in post-production.
Director of Photography, Simon Chapman, is another long-time collaborator, having shot all of Power’s recent shorts.
Killing Ground is set for theatrical release in 2016 by Mushroom Pictures and Films Distribution (International). Supported by The Post Op Group and Red Apple, the film has also been produced with the financial assistance of Screen Australia and Screen NSW.
