Stephen Curry.
Port Shorts Film Festival ambassadors Stephen Curry (The Castle, The Cup), Wolf Creek EP Matt Hearn and screenwriter Kier Shorey (Blurred), will deliver a free workshop in Port Douglas later this month.
They will be joined by Screen Queensland production incentive and attractions Manager Gina Black and New York Film Academy Australia’s Brian Vining and Dean Mayer.
“Do you guys even bother watching the weather report up there with your balmy winter sunsets? It’s bloody freezing here in Melbourne,” Curry said.
“Coincidently, Matt, Kier and I are very excited to be involved in these workshops helping young and emerging filmmakers develop their skills and build confidence in their craft.
“To be honest I’m probably not going to be much help, but the rest of the panel really know their stuff so it should be a great opportunity for anyone interested in filmmaking to come along and pick their collective brains.”
Hearn said that, as filmmakers, “we love to share our war stories and what we’ve all learnt from our varying experiences”.
“A fabulous feature of Port Shorts is the workshops and forum they provide emerging filmmakers to ask the questions they’ve always wanted to ask and gain insights that might help guide their next steps and avoid some of the bumps in the road,”
“It’s very rewarding for me personally and I’m really looking forward to seeing where filmmakers take us this year.”
Port Shorts Film Festival Director Alison George said organisers were delighted to bring up such a well-credentialed film industry panel for the benefit of the Far North Queensland filmmaking community.
“Port Shorts is very proud to present the free Port Shorts Masterclass Series and we would like to thank Festivals Australia for helping to fund the workshops as well as our Ambassadors, New York Film Academy Australia and Screen Queensland for supporting us with their involvement,” said Gerge.

Port Shorts Ambassadors and New York Film Academy Australia will also be involved in Port Shorts Young Filmmaker Masterclasses with teams of senior high school film students in Cairns and Mossman on August 18 and 19.
