Disney’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has blitzed the box office on its opening weekend, ringing up an impressive $14.7 million from 318 screens.
No other film came close, with Trolls next best at $1.8 million. Now in its third week, the Fox animated musical-comedy sits on $10.5 million.
Behind it was eOne’s Office Christmas Party, which earned $1.1 million over its second weekend. The Jennifer Aniston-starrer has a $4.3 million cume.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them fell 51 per cent in its fifth weekend to take just under $1.1 million. The Harry Potter prequel from Warner Bros. has made just under $29 million so far.
No other film broke the million dollar mark this week. Icon’s Hacksaw Ridge, on screens for seven weeks, tallied $288,843 over the weekend to bring its total to $7.7 million overall.
Sony’s Underworld: Blood Wars, now in its third week, has nabbed $3.5 million overall with weekend earnings of $279,980 – a drop of 63 per cent.
Roadshow’s Arrival, in cinemas for six weeks, dropped 64 per cent to take $155,161, taking its total to $7.3 million.
Disney’s Doctor Strange is on $20.8 million after eight weeks, while Roadshow’s The Founder is on $2.6 million after four weeks.
Rounding out the top ten is Madman anime Your Name, which has just cracked $1 million in Oz.
