Brisbane’s first World Movies Secret Cinema takes hundreds back to the 1920’s

PRESS RELEASE

Hundreds of unsuspecting guests departed on a cinematic journey back to the 1920s, as World Movies Secret Cinema took over Brisbane’s iconic Tramway Museum for Brisbane’s first World Movies Secret Cinema. In association with the Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival, the Tramway Museum was transformed into a 1920s experience over the last four days, and welcomed 1000 Brisbane molls and dolls for a secret film screening.
World Movies Secret Cinema is a complete secret until it begins, with guests only aware of the time and date. Attendees received SMS clues with a final meeting point on the day of the event. From here, guests were escorted on to a fully-restored 1920s tram, taking a leisurely ride into the tram sheds of Brisbane’s historic tram museum that was transformed into a speakeasy club.

Once there, guests were greeted by a live Jazz band, burlesque performances, Charleston dancers and roaming actors that interrogated, bewildered and mesmerised the crowd.

Guests were treated to a delicious Asian-inspired snack, which was complimented by a glass of Australian wine. Attendees were also encouraged to don their best glad rags and take part in the World Movies Tram Photobooth, with the most creative photo winning a $1000 cash prize.

As guests made their way to the screening theatre in the middle of the Tramway Museum grounds, they were taken on a thrilling journey to 1920s China in Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen starring Donnie Yen and Qi Shu.

“Over the last four days we have taken World Movies Secret Cinema to a whole new level,” said Chris Keely, General Manager of World Movies. “From the exciting location to the stunning film, theming and performances – the response from our hundreds of guests has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s exciting to take our channel off-screen in a way that is fresh and engaging.”

World Movies Secret Cinema can pop up anywhere – stay tuned for details. Where will we take you next?
