Dance Academy picks up International Emmy nomination

ABC3 children's series Dance Academy has picked up an International Emmy Awards nomination in the Children and Young People category.

The show, which follows teenage ballerina Tara Webster and her fellow students the National Academy of Dance, is the only Australian program to be recognised.

"All of the cast and crew worked incredibly hard on the filming of Dance Academy and we are extremely proud the series has received this prestigious nomination," said producer and co-creator Joanna Werner.

The first series of Dance Academy premiered on May 31, 2010 on ABC1, before airing on ABC3 a week later.

The show has been sold to ten countries, including South Korea, Norway and Belgium, and won the 2011 Logie for Most Outstanding Children's Program.

The second series is currently in post-production and scheduled to air on ABC3 in 2012. Seen again through the eyes of Tara Webster (Xenia Goodwin), it will focus on the students as they compete to be part of the world's most prestigious ballet competition.

The 39th International Emmy Awards will be held in New York on November 21. Dance Academy will compete against programs from Malaysia, Chile and Germany.
