Film composer Guy Gross shortlisted in nationwide invention competition

 Press release from J&E Publicity

Film composer Guy Gross (East west 101, Farscape, A Few Best Men) hasn't quite given up his day job – but he has been shortlisted in a competition offering wannabe entrepreneurs the chance to have their product ideas made and sold through one of Australia’s leading online department stores!

Guy from Bellevue Hill, NSW, was shortlisted from hundreds of entrants to make the final ten in the ‘Project Inventor’ initiative, a nationwide search by online retailer oo.com.au to find Australia’s next great product idea.

Members of the public were invited to submit their inventions for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to have their design made and sold alongside leading brands on oo.com.au, which is dedicated to bringing consumers the latest in product innovation. The brief for the competition was wide, with just one key criteria: the winning entry should be a everyday product aimed at making life easier.

Guy’s invention is ‘The OOTT (One of those Towels)’, a towel and bag in one, designed for beach-goers who don’t want to take a bag but need somewhere to store valuables. Regular beach goer Guy made himself a towel with a concealed pocket for his own use but until now had never had the opportunity to commercialise his invention.

He says: "When I read about the oo.com.au competition I just jumped at the chance. If I win, having such an experienced sales and manufacturing partner will allow me to continue my musical day job and still enjoy my five minutes of fame as an inventor!”

James Mooring, Sales & Marketing Director, oo.com.au, says: “The response for Project Inventor has completely blown us away. We think Guy’s invention is among the strongest but the final decision lies with the public so if you think either entrant deserves to win, make sure you vote! Regardless of the outcome, the competition has certainly shown that we’re a nation of creative and innovative thinkers, which is really exciting to see.”

You can vote for Guy’s invention (and view competing entries) via the oo.com.au Facebook page until October 30th at this address The entrant with the most votes will be announced as overall winner before the end of October and have their product made and sold on oo.com.au.
