Film Vic and FMA to offer placements for writers on ‘Neighbours’

‘Neighbours’.

Three Victorian early-to-mid career writers will have the opportunity to undertake a six-week placement on Neighbours, thanks to an ongoing partnership between Film Victoria and FremantleMedia Australia.

The placement will see the three writers work full-time in the script department attending plotting meetings and contributing story ideas. Each will have the opportunity to write a spec script.

The placements form part of an ongoing initiative between Film Victoria and FremantleMedia, who will continue to offer development opportunities for Victorian creatives on the soap over the next four years. Three directors are due to begin shadow placements next month.

Film Victoria CEO Caroline Pitcher said: “Our skills development placements provide strong reciprocal benefits. For early career writers, they receive on the job coaching working with some of Australia’s most experienced writers and producers in a fast paced writers room whilst productions like Neighbours benefits from hearing some of the exciting new voices coming from early career practitioners. It’s a win-win situation for Victoria’s screen industry.”

Neighbours’ EP Jason Herbison said “Neighbours has a very rich history of developing and nurturing writing talent in Australia. We are thrilled to partner with Film Victoria to find the next generation of storytellers. The fast paced, never ending narrative of Ramsay Street means there’s no better place to hone the craft of writing for television.”

Successful recipients will undertake their placement in a six-week block between August and December.

Applications are now open and close 5pm June 6. Guidelines here.
