Five emerging documentary makers given an opportunity for ABC2 series

Screen Australia and ABC TV today announced a line-up of five compelling half-hour documentaries for ABC2’s new prime time Opening Shot series. The stories, told by young emerging documentary makers in this insightful and entertaining series, are currently in production and will air mid 2012 on ABC2.

ABC2 Controller, Stuart Menzies, said, “ABC2 is the natural home for Opening Shot – new stories, new film makers and challenging ideas”.

ABC TV Head of Documentaries, Alan Erson, said, “We are always on the lookout for new talent and it’s invigorating to be working with up-and-coming producers and directors.”

Screen Australia’s Documentary Manager, Liz Stevens, said, “With well over 100 applications received, the next generation of filmmakers certainly have a lot to say on all aspects of life and society. They’re edgy and direct films and I’m really looking forward to seeing them on screen.”
