Flickerfest heads to Avoca and Adelaide

After a highly successful 10 day festival in Sydney in January, Flickerfest, Australia’s leading short film festival, will now bring the best of Australian and International short films to Avoca from Fri 3rd- Sat 4th, hosted by Avoca Beach Picture Theatre and Adelaide Fri 3rd- Sat 4th, hosted by Mercury Cinema  this weekend on its 37 venue national tour. We will be also screen our much loved FlickerKids programme at Leichhardt Council’s ‘Pics in the Park’ screening in Pioneers Memorial Park – Norton St Leichhardt on Fri 3rd.

Flickerfest is thrilled to include in our 2012 tour across Australia ‘Raju’ a heartfelt drama from Germany which had its Australian premiere at Flickerfest in Official International Competition before its recent Academy® Award Nomination. This film screens in our Best Of International 1 programme, and follows a couples journey to India to collect their adopted child. The film will screen in Adelaide on Fri 3rd. Followed by our Best of Australian programme which presents the best of Australian’s emerging talent on Saturday 4th. We are delighted to have some local SA films in these programmes that all screened as part of the official Australian competition at Flickerfest Bondi, ‘A Tale Of Obsession’ wr/dir Dave Wade, ‘Death of a Bogan’ dir Nick Matthews and ‘The Moment’ dirs Troy Bellchambers & Shane McNeil, and that these filmmakers will be present to introduce their films.

Highlights of Flickerfest’s presented by ING DIRECT Avoca Programme this weekend also include many award winners from Flickerfest Sydney, the SAE Institute Award for Best Use of Digital Technology for the hilariously offbeat ‘Las Palmas’, ‘Bear’ by Nash Edgerton, Winner of The Icebergs Dining Room and Bar Award For Best Direction in an Australian short film, and a range of wacky comedic films in our ‘Short Laughs’ programme.

Finally big congratulations also to the filmmakers of the animation ‘Dimanche/Sunday’ which has been nominated for 2012 Academy® Award for Best Short Film, Animation and also screened in Official Competition at Flickerfest Sydney in January.
