IF Awards wants unproduced scripts

The national people’s choice awards for Australian film are officially calling for entries to the Independent Spirit IF Award and the ZTudio What IF? Award for Best Unproduced Screenplay.

The ZTudio What IF? Award for Best Unproduced Screenplay aims to discover a writer with enormous potential. Screenwriters who have been proactive in developing their screenplay are encouraged to enter. The winner of the ZTudio What IF? Award for Best Unproduced Screenplay will be flown to the destination of their choice to meet key film industry personnel including producers, creative execs and agents to pitch their script.

Since ZTudio founded the Award in 2000, the ZTudio What IF? Award for Best Unproduced Screenplay has attracted amazing talent from around Australia. Many finalists and winners have gone on to further success; to name a few, Brian Carbee (Accidents Happen), Kriv Stenders (The Illustrated Family Doctor), Ben C Lucas & Anthony Vercoe (All Flesh Must Be Eaten: The Movie), Julius Avery (End Of Town) and Sean Byrne & Rob Beamish (The Loved Ones).  This year we celebrate the IF Awards’ tenth year.

“This award truly reflects ZTudio’s core ambition – to nurture and develop Australian artists for the world stage”, Stacey Testro, CEO of ZTudio says. “Each year it is an absolute privilege to receive scripts from writers from all over Australia, and to be in a position where we can offer writers access to the best people and advice.”

Applicants for the ZTudio What IF? Award for Best Unproduced Screenplay are required to submit their feature film script, CV and an application form, now available at www.ifawards.com.au

The Independent Spirit IF Award is also now open for entries and recognises an individual or small creative team who, despite limited resources or challenging circumstances, have demonstrated the creativity, tenacity and independence of vision required to make a compelling project of any length or genre. This award is also open to applications from new media producers. Past winners of The Independent Spirit IF Award include Julian Shaw (Darling! The Peter Dirk-Uys Story), Melanie Hogan and Bob Randall (Kanyini), Wayne Coles-Janess (In the Shadow of the Palms) and 2006 Australian of the Year Khoa Do (The Finished People).

Applicants for the Independent Spirit IF Award need to submit a written application to the Inside Film Awards detailing in no more than 750 words how the project was made, the challenges faced and how this demonstrates the nominee’s independence of spirit.  Screening copies of projects will be requested upon short-listing.

Submission deadlines for both the Independent Spirit If Award is Monday 28th July and the ZTudio What IF? Award for Best Unproduced Screenplay is Friday 1st August.

The Inside Film Awards will welcome the nominees for this award to Queensland. The winner will be announced during the glittering awards ceremony in front of a live audience of over 1,000 film industry professionals and broadcast on SBS TV and SHOWTIME.

The Inside Film Awards will celebrate its 10th year on November 13, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
