Margot Robbie will follow in the footsteps of Simon Baker, Isla Fisher Rose Byrne, and Chris Hemsworth in receiving the AACTA Trailblazer Award.

Designed to recognise an Australian screen practitioner who inspires others in the industry, the award will be presented at the 2024 AACTA Awards Ceremony, to be held on Saturday, February 10 at Home of the Arts (HOTA) on the Gold Coast.

Robbie, who was previously nominated for the AACTA Favourite Global Star of the Decade Award in 2020, and Best Actress in 2022 for Amsterdam, said she was “truly honoured” to accept the prize, especially in her home town of the Gold Coast.

“Australia has always been my grounding force, and to receive this recognition here is incredibly special,” she said

“I believe in the power of storytelling and the impact it can have on shaping culture and inspiring others. This award is a testament to the incredible talent and dedication of everyone involved in the film community, and I am thrilled to be a part of it. Thank you to AACTA for this tremendous honour and I look forward to celebrating with the Australian screen industry in Queensland next month.”

After starting out on Neighbours, Robbie gained widespread recognition for her breakthrough role as Naomi Lapaglia in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. She has since gone on to portray figure skater Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, as well as a young woman navigating the toxic environment of a news network Bombshell, both of which earned her Academy Award nominations. Her other works of note include Mary Queen of Scots, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and Babylon.

While she missed out on a lead actress Academy Award nomination for her turn as Barbie, Robbie is recognised as a producer of the Mattel-inspired film, which is up for best picture at this year’s awards and has grossed more than $US1.4 billion globally. Her production company LuckyChap has previously been involved with I, Tonya, Birds of Prey, Promising Young Woman, and last year’s Saltburn.

The AACTA Awards main ceremony, which will be hosted by Rebel Wilson, will be broadcast on 10 at 7pm AEDT, February 10, while a ‘director’s cut’, featuring all awards will be available on Binge, Foxtel On-Demand and AACTA TV the next day.
