PRESS RELEASE
Network Ten is pleased to announce Wallabies legend, Matt Burke, will join Sandra Sully on the desk of TEN News Sydney as Sports Presenter.
Matt Burke will join TEN News next month, replacing Brad McEwan who is returning home to Melbourne to join Stephen Quartermain and the TEN News Melbourne team.
There is no questioning that Matt knows a thing or two about sport. He established himself as one of Australian Rugby’s most accomplished backs during his 11 season international career with the Wallabies.
Matt’s career highlights include representing Australia in three World Cups (1995, 1999, 2003), 81 Test appearances in Wallaby Gold, 115 appearances in the sky blue of the NSW Waratahs, and in 2004 becoming the overall leading points scorer in the then Super Rugby competition.
In 2013, Matt joined Network Ten’s coverage of the 2013 British & Irish Lions Rugby Tour, and is an expert commentator for The Castrol EDGE Rugby Championship.
Matt Burke said: “Extending my association with Ten, as a rugby commentator to also being part of TEN’s prime time evening news, is an exciting challenge.”
“It’s clear to many that Ten is on a roll and being part of a network that’s committed to delivering high-quality programming offers great appeal.”
Network Ten Chief Executive Officer, Hamish McLennan, said: “Signing Matt as our Sydney Sports Presenter is a big coup for TEN News.
“Matt is a sporting legend, and we are very excited to have him on our team,” he said.
Network Ten Head of News and Current Affairs, Anthony Flannery, said: “Not only is Matt Burke one of Australia’s rugby legends, he’s one of Australia’s greatest sportsmen. He has an amazing knowledge and passion for all sports from league to motor sports to cricket. He’s also a great bloke.
“Matt has been working in the media for some years now and will bring his energy, knowledge and professionalism to TEN News.
“He’s an excellent addition to our news service, which is dedicated to giving Sydney its most comprehensive coverage of sport. We can’t wait for him to start,” he said.
Sydney news presenter, Sandra Sully, said: “I am thrilled to be working alongside Matt Burke. His sports credentials speak for themselves and he will bring a wealth of knowledge to the sports desk, as well as being a genuinely great guy and good fun to work with.
“TEN News, always the market leader on and off the field,” Sandra said.
