zspace called on the big cinema experience of Hollywood to produce a dynamic modern look for Event TV.
zspace’s creative team was approached by Amalgamated Holdings Ltd to relaunch Event TV, Event Cinema’s inhouse entertainment info channel that screens in the foyers of every Event Cinema around Australia.
Event TV’s new format is hosted by super talent, Darren McMullen (Seven’s Minute to Win It) and needed a contemporary look to compliment this new direction.
In creating the relaunch, zspace Creative Director Jean-Christophe Danoy ironically looked to the grand days of cinema for inspiration, “We sought out Hollywood magic and glamour, to give viewers the excitement of a big studio movie experience. The resulting look is epic and grand while maintaining a fun, entertainment based feel.”
The deliverables for the package were similar to a channel rebrand package; including an Ident (opening sequence), six stings, straps, virtual set and looping backgrounds. They were also extremely technical and specific as they needed to be cinema ready and user friendly (as they are to be regularly updated by the client internally).
The zspace team also needed to take into account the dark of the cinema, and the possibility of a lack of sound. As Event TV is shown in cinema foyers the graphics needed to grab attention in a space where sound may be minimal whilst competing with the noise of movie going crowds.
Senior zspace Producer Jackie Archer said, “The main challenge was to create graphics that could be interesting without sound, so the graphics need to grab the viewers’ attention and spell out what is onscreen in a creative and engaging manner.”
